Benjamin Caruthers affectionately known as “Ben,” a cherished individual known for their kind, loving, caring, strong yet quiet and humorous personality, transitioned and entered the arms of his angels on December 19, 2024. Born on December 5,1949 at Kansas University Hospital, Ben lived and built a rich life filled with tremendous passion and service towards others in Kansas City, Kansas.
Ben was preceded in death by his parents, Hallie (May 5, 2010) and Rufus (January 16, 2013) Caruthers of Kansas who instilled a firm foundation of faith within him and his siblings leading to him accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his brothers, Rufus (Patricia) Caruthers Jr. who resides in San Antonio, Texas and James (Patricia) Caruthers who resides in Kansas City, Missouri, whose lives were greatly enriched by Ben’s presence. The roots of his legacy will continue to grow through the pride and joy of his children, Benson Caruthers of Kansas City, Kansas, Michael (Kathreen) White of St. Louis, Missouri; his grandchildren, Asia Caruthers of Houston, Texas and Collin Harris of Kansas City, Missouri, and his
great- grandchildren Kylie and Kyree Caruthers of Houston, Texas and nieces, nephews, and extended family. In his later years, he found love and companionship with Constance (Connie) Ross who will miss him deeply. Ben’s departure leaves an unfillable void in their lives, yet they find comfort in the memories and everlasting love they shared.
Ben was an esteemed alumnus of Sumner High School, later Sumner Academy of Arts & Science, which has been named to the National Register of Historic Places and the Register of Historic Kansas Places where his participation and athleticism were highlighted in Track and Baseball. After graduating in 1967, Ben went on to attend college at Kansas City Kansas Community College. There he was a shining example of how to think of others, a value that was central to their character. Their school years were marked by their kindness, empathy, and capacity to bring joy to those around them.
Ben’s undeniable work ethic, leadership, and drive to excel was exhibited in various roles as he was trusted as a Team Leader and Member, Driver and Crib Attendant within his more than 56 years of service at General Motors Fairfax Plant in Kansas, City, Kansas. Whomever had the privilege of knowing Ben knew he cherished stability and respected gaining knowledge and insight from those around him.
When not working Ben could be found exploring his talents in landscaping and thoroughly enjoying tinkering with new technological gadgets, listening to music, traveling, watching football or a good action movie, dancing, attending concerts, dressing sharp and spending time and laughing with his companion Connie.
Benjamin Caruthers, a beacon of kindness and love, will forever reside in our hearts. Their legacy, exemplified by their love of family, enjoyment of life and compassion, will continue to inspire and guide us. As we grapple with the loss of their physical presence, we find solace in knowing that their spirit lives on through their family, the lives they have impacted and the love they instilled in us.
A visitation for Benjamin will be held Friday, December 27, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. A funeral service will occur Saturday, December 28, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home.
Benjamin will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112; Garden of Apostles ; Lot: 71 , Grave: 3, Section: A.
