Bennie was born in Wetmore, Kansas to Bennie and Betty Cashman on August 2, 1942. He was raised by his mother and stepfather, Earle Barackman.
Bennie graduated from Washington High School in Kansas City, KS in 1960. He enlisted in the Navy from 1962 – 1968 and then enlisted in the Air Force from 1971 until he retired in December 1985. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Belford University in 2001 and his master’s degree in 2004. At the age of 66 he earned his Doctor of Biblical Studies.
He worked for the United States Postal Service from 1986 until his retirement in December 2004. His final job was his true passion, pastor at First Christian Church of Osawatomie.
He was a past member of the Odd Fellows and past member of the Shriner Clown Unit that participated in parades and festivals. He was a Member of the Cornelia Rebekah Lodge #50, Gladiola #459 OES and Delaware #96 Masonic Lodge- KCK. He was actively involved with the local Boy Scout and Cub Scout troops with his sons. He enjoyed the hustle and bustle of his many great grandchildren running around and the family reunion trips taken the last several years. He will be greatly missed by all his family, friends, and community members.
Bennie was preceded in death by his parents, and his great grandson, Harrison Summers.
While on leave from Hawaii, Bennie met his ladybug, Judy and they were married May, 1977 in Wichita, Kansas, she survives in Olathe, KS. Other survivors include son, Brian (Celeste) Cashman of Kansas City, KS; daughter, Rhonda (Greg) Britton of East Peoria, IL; son, Jeff (Cynthia Singleton) Cashman of Olathe, KS; son, Ed (Sheri) Cashman of Linn Valley, KS; son, Eric Wright (Cheyanne Fischer) of Ferrellview, MO; grandchildren, Alyse (Zachary Glavin) Meyer, Elizabeth Britton, Ashley (Barry Jensen) Cashman, Rick Meyer, TJ (Nicole) Cashman, Rebecca (Brendan) Summers, Brianne (Adam Kraly) Cashman, Olyvia Wright; 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Randy Cashman of Texas, Harold (Butch) Barackman of Shawnee, KS; and sisters, Della Pool of Seneca, MO, and Mary Folson of Kansas City, KS,
Visitation will be from 4-6:30 PM, with a Masonic service beginning at 6:30 PM, Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112. A funeral service for Bennie will be held at 12:00 PM, Thursday, November 11, 2021, also at the funeral home. A graveside service with Military Honors will be at 3:00 PM, Thursday, November 11, 2021 at Powhattan Cemetery in Powhattan, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Wounded Warrior Project.
