

Betty J. Phillips, 84, of Basehor, passed away March 3, 2017. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 pm, Tuesday, March 7th at Chapel Hill – Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, March 8th at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Betty was born November 10, 1932 in Albany, MO to Joe and Doris Pickering. She grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School. Betty married Elton Phillips on September 2, 1950 and they moved to the Kansas City area. They owned and operated their own restaurant, Victory Junction. She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist; her husband Elton was a retired minister. Betty was a very talented artist and painter and loved having her beloved dog, Corky, by her side. She was a very caring and loving person and will be greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elton on March 26, 2003; her sister, Madonna Phillips; her granddaughter, Rachel Wyatt; and her great-grandson, Brock Marcel.
Betty is survived by her children, Vicki Boone and her husband Eddie of Tonganoxie, Earl Dean Phillips and his wife Sandy of Alaska, Nancy Phillips of Missouri, and Rita Zipperlen and her husband Jim of Olathe; brother, Danny Pickering and his wife Doris of Albany, MO; sister, Sue Robbins of Basehor; fourteen grandchildren, Jonathan Boone, Phillip Boone, Carrie Ayers, Nathaniel Boone, Earl Phillips, Jr., Jerry Phillips, Chris Phillips, Patty Phillips, Brian Vaughn, Jason Vaughn, Heather Vaughn, Joe Thompson, Alan Thompson, and Jen Marcel; many great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandbaby on the way.
