

Betty Lee Welter, 86, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away November 26, 2014. A Rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. then a memorial visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., and Memorial Mass to follow at 11:00 all on Wednesday, December 3rd at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Inurnment will follow the Mass in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112 or the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
Betty was born January 6, 1928 in Manhattan, Kansas to Don and Blanche Hogan. At age nine, she and her family moved to California where she attended Los Feliz Grammar School, Thomas Starr King Junior High and graduated from John Marshall High School. Betty met her husband in California and they married on July 7, 1946. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Kansas City, Kansas and started a family. Betty worked for Strongheart Products for many years as a transportation manager, retiring in 1990. She was an avid Kansas City Royals fan and after their 29 year absence from the playoffs, Betty was thrilled when she was able to attend Game 2 of the 2014 World Series. She converted to Catholicism at age 17, and was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, holding numerous leadership positions in the parish. Betty lived her faith on a daily basis and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son, James Francis “Frank” Welter, and her sister, Mary Alice.
Betty is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Welter; her children, Richard Welter and his wife Lynn, Don Welter, and Sheri Hauck and her husband Steve; her sister, Patricia Strode and her husband DeWitt “Bud”; her grandchildren, Dana Gering and her husband Mark, Justin Welter, Warren Welter, Holly Davidson and her husband Seth, Derek Welter and his wife Maggie, Geoff Gates, Stevie Gates, and Kelley Guerra and her husband Romeo; her great-grandchildren, Justin and Noah Welter, Drew and Stella Davidson, and Brooklyn and Greyson Gering; her niece, Carol Strode; her nephew, Tim Strode and his wife Sue; as well as many other friends and family.
