She was born Carolyn Lee Sims on April 24, 1943 to Floyd and Bernadine Sims (Rustenhaven) in Kansas City, KS. In fifth grade, she met Everett Lumley and the two have been inseparable ever since. They married on September 26, 1959 and continued to build a life full of family, fun and love, raising four children. She mastered the art of “Mom” and homemaker.
Carolyn prided herself on her meticulous yard filled with flowers, which always looked beautiful, and the numerous species of birds that would flock to her feeders and birdhouses. Over the years, she enjoyed building collections from antiques to themed collectables. Every holiday, each room in her house was decorated. She also loved watching all sports, but especially the Jayhawks, Chiefs, and Royals, and has traveled to many events to cheer them on.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Larry Sims and Mick Sims, and a sister, Vicki Nicolulis.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Everett, of the home. Other survivors include one daughter, Lora (Ron) Aitkens, Tonganoxie, three sons, Everett Lumley Jr., KCK, Jeff (Sandy) Lumley, Basehor, Keith (Marie) Lumley, KCK, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, one sister, Beverly Davis, KCK, and many nieces and nephews. We are all thankful for having her in our lives and she will be missed greatly.
