

Catherine Virginia (Hill) Hobelmann went home to the loving arms of Jesus on June 30, 2016. Cathy was born in the Atchison Hospital in Atchison, Kansas on August 9, 1943. She was baptized at Hoyt Baptist Church on August 15, 1954. On December 25, 1966, Cathy confessed her faith in Jesus at her confirmation at Grace Lutheran Church, Kansas City, Kansas by Pastor Eugene Schmidt. Cathy graduated from Hoyt High School in 1961, attended Washburn University in 1961-1963 and graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Child Development from Kansas City Kansas Community College in 1998. On December 21, 1963, Cathy married Wayne Hobelmann which resulted in their three children, Gary, Troy & Mindy.
Besides being a housewife, loving mother and grandmother, she had various jobs. She first worked for the Kansas Motor Department, J.C. Penney’s, Midwest Regional Credit Union, Anchor Savings, and as Grace Lutheran Daycare Co-Director. She enjoyed helping out over the years at the Daycare for her friend Donna and worked at the Nutrition Site at Grace Lutheran Church until Alzheimer's no longer allowed her to work.
Cathy’s love flowed in many directions, not just to her husband, children and grandchildren but to many friends and others who needed a place to stay or a meal to eat. Her house was open to many especially her children’s friends who might come in at any time of the day or night. Cathy loved children, and especially spending time with her grandchildren.
Cathy was active in the church, in Women’s Guild, sang in the church choir and Worship Team, taught Sunday school, vacation bible school, made baptismal banners, Women of Faith and was in Stephens Ministry taught by Norma Jacob. Cathy was a life time member of Job’s Daughter and in 1960 she was crowned the Job’s Daughter’s Queen.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Wendell and Bill Hill, and sister Mary Lou Kottman. Cathy is survived by her husband, Wayne, her children Gary (Nancy), Troy, and Mindy (Sam) Alexander, and Susan Lund who has become a part of our family; grandchildren Courtney, Rebecca, Heather, Xavier, Alex, Dalton, Noah and Samuel, cousins, Gary Salts and Sue Swartzman and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas on Tuesday, July 5th from 6:00-8:00PM. Funeral Service will be at Grace Lutheran, 3333 Wood Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas 66102, on Wednesday, July 6th at 11:00AM, with a visitation prior at 10:00AM.
Cathy’s brain was donated to the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Center to further efforts to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3846 West 75th Street, Prairie Village, Kansas 66208 or to Grace Lutheran Church in Cathy’s name.
