Charles Essary, or “Chuck” as he was known by all his friends, passed away on Wednesday, May 8th at 5:37 a.m. His funeral services will be at noon on Monday, May 13th at Chapel Hill-Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Friends may call from 11-noon preceding the service at the funeral home. Interment with Military Honors will follow the service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Chuck would have been 87 years old in a few short weeks, as he was born May 30, 1926 to Charles and Maggie Essary. He served in World War II as a beach landing craft pilot and received several Medals of Honor for his faithful service. Chuck was married in 1950 to his beautiful wife of 62 years, Beverly Essary, that he leaves behind. He also leaves his only child, son Mark Essary of Kansas City, MO; two granddaughters and a grandson-in-law, Jacquelyn Wooten and her husband Barrett of Plano, TX and Maria Essary of Kansas City, MO; one great-granddaughter, Harper Wooten of Plano, TX, and an unborn great-grandson to be born to the Wootens in late July. Chuck lived a full life. He coached baseball and basketball for over 10 years. Chuck was a longtime warehouse receiving manager at JC Penney, where he retired at the age of 62. He loved his God, Jesus Christ, and the Community Christian Church, where he was an Emeritus member and Deacon for 53 years. Chuck enjoyed taking his family on vacations, especially cruises to see all of God’s beautiful sites and creations. He had a wonderful sense of humor and often left most of his friends and family in tears of laughter. He will be strongly missed by all, but as Chuck always said, “This world is not my home and while I’m here, I’m not alone. One day, we will all go Home to Glory to be with Christ Jesus.” Well Dad, you made it! You fought the good fight, you stayed the course, and kept the Faith. We all love you and will miss you dearly.
