

Charlotte Anne White, 77, of KCK, passed away suddenly March 2, 2017 at home. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 11th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N 18th St., Kansas City, KS 66102. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 10th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112. Interment will follow the funeral service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, The Red Cross or the United Way.
Charlotte was born January 23, 1940 in Bridgeton, NJ to Robert and Bernice Martin. She grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Atlantic City High School. Charlotte enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp after a recruiter came to talk with her brother. She was a Specialist 4th Class and was stationed in the 97th General Hospital in Frankfort, Germany, where she met her future husband, Herbert White. He was also stationed in Germany with the 94th Construction Engineers’ Battalion. They both joined the same bowling league there and decided to marry after a year of dating. They were married in Basel, Switzerland on January 16, 1968. They returned to the states and moved to Kansas City, where they found their church home in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Charlotte was very active in the church for over 49 years, volunteering with the youth groups, singing in the choir, and was a member of the Daughters of the King and the Episcopal Church Women. She and Herbert even spent their 1 year anniversary at a silent retreat with the youth of St. Paul’s. Charlotte was also active in the Kansas City J.C. Community Chorus. Charlotte received the Volunteer of the Year from the Red Cross, the United Way, and Camp Wood YMCA the same year. She drove a school bus for USD 500 for over 10 years, then 10 years for the EOF Head Start program, and 15 years for Durham/First Student; Charlotte retired in January 2017.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Julius Briggs; and her step-son, Herbert Tracy White.
Charlotte is survived by her husband of 49 years, Herbert White; her sisters, Eleanor Duran, Pamela Smith, Harriet Martin Washington, and Alice Briggs; her step-sons, Anthony White of Los Angeles, CA, and David S. White and his wife Cassandra of Los Angeles, CA; a niece who was like a daughter, Linda Marie (Briggs) Stewart of Atlantic City, NJ; four grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends.
