

Daurice Louise Thomas, 89, of KCK passed away Sat., July 14, 2012 at Sharon Lane Health Services. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wed, July 18 at Chapel Hill-Butler, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tues, July 17 at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Daurice was born Jan 22, 1923 in Boone County, MO to George V. and Velva (Long) Tisdel. Her family moved to the KC area when she was a child and she graduated from Argentine High School. Daurice married Wilbert Thomas in 1946 after the War. She and her husband were both active in the American Legion, VFW and Ladies’ Auxiliary. Daurice held many offices, including President, during her time in the Auxiliary. She worked as a tax processor for H&R Block until her retirement. Daurice was best known for her loving heart and her open kitchen, her fried chicken was prized by everyone who ever got to sit down for a meal. She dedicated her life to her kids and grandkids. Daurice enjoyed gardening and sewing and made many of her children and grandchildren’s special outfits throughout the years. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbert Thomas, her sisters Darlene Zybko and Sue Henley as well as her son-in-law Mark Proctor. Daurice is survived by her children Linda Longstaff of Garnett, KS, Joyce Thomas of Houston, TX, Robert Thomas of Ottawa, KS, Verna Proctor of Bonner Springs, KS, grandchildren Lonnie, Lisa, Ryan and Jayce and four great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Kendallwood Hospice for all their loving care and support in Daurice’s final days.
