David A. Meditz, 77, of Kansas City, KS passed away on June 30, 2025. He was born on June 15, 1948 in Kansas City, KS to ErmaLee Miche Meditz and Andrew Immanuel Meditz. He was the loving husband of Rebecca (Barber) Meditz for 20 years. He will be deeply missed by his siblings Dale (Nancy) Meditz and Denise (Mark) Yulich as well as his children David (Lisa) Meditz, Michelle (Matthew) Adams, and Jessica Porter as well as 9 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
David is a lifelong resident of Wyandotte County, raised in the Turner area, with family history in the community going back into the 1840’s. He graduated from Kansas University with a SSD (BA) in History/Anthropology and did professional field work with the Smithsonian, National Geographic, Louisiana Research Foundation and the Anthropology Research Facility KU. He worked with several of the fathers of modern archaeology and anthropology. He worked for more than 35 years for Garsite/Progress LLC, spending most of his years there as the department head for the paint shop. He is also a co-owner of Sparlin Motors and the owner of Tinkers Wagon. As the father of three children, he gave up his interest in Quality Painting Systems racecars but still enjoys his trains. David is the past president of the Shawnee Indian Mission. The past president and Board Member of the German American Edelweiss Society, and a life member of both the Kansas State Historical Society and the Wyandotte County Historical Society and Museum, Inc. He is a member of the (Irish) Bar Na Maidne Assn. Top of the Morning Club, the Irish Cultural Center, Friends of the Grinter House Board. He was a Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout with 2 palms and holds the Silver Beaver. He was a regional and national trainer, including train the trainer for the Boy Scouts of America. David was currently the Chairman for the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, KS Landmarks Commission. He researches and writes for the Historical Journal of Wyandotte County and is the 2017 Historian of the Year and reenacts historical figures of Wyandotte County. Current volunteer activities – fundraisers for Ward High School, Paws for Freedom various cancer concerns, he helps with the Celebration of the Family/Ethnic Festival – KCKCC is his passion. The loves of his life are his two great granddaughters and all his grandchildren, which he bemoaned not seeing enough. He was known to some as Mr. History and loved entertaining and educating friends and family.
