David Sims was born on May 14, 1957, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Elder Melvin D. and Annetta Sims. On June 3, 2026, he peacefully departed this life, leaving a legacy of love, faith, dedication, and family.
A proud Sumner High School Class of 1975 “Spartan”, David met the love of his life, Connie, during their high school years. Their friendship blossomed into a lifelong love story, and together they built a family grounded in faith, commitment, and devotion.
Applying his architectural certification from AVTS, KCKs, David devoted more than 40 years to the engineering consulting profession, working with Selective Site Consultants and Board Brown Consultants Engineering. He was respected for his integrity, professionalism, and strong work ethic.
Family was David's greatest joy. He loved gathering with loved ones, sharing stories, creating memories, and celebrating life's special moments. He especially treasured his roles as husband, father, and grandfather.
An avid fisherman, David found peace along the water's edge and joy in the simple moments of life. He also enjoyed music and spent time learning to play the guitar. Those who knew him will remember his gentle spirit, quiet strength, warm smile, and unwavering love for family.
He has gone fishing—beyond the lakes and rivers of this life, into eternal rest, where peace is still and the waters never end.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Elder Melvin D. and Annetta Sims; a sister, Judith Ann Sims; his parents-in-law, Tilton and Gladys Cage; and his brothers-in-law, Kenneth and Preston Cage.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and high school sweetheart, Connie Sims; his loving daughter, Crystal Joyce (Ricardo); his cherished grandsons, DéVyon, Amari, and Titan; his sister, Velma (David) McReynolds of Kansas City, Kansas; his brother, Pastor Jonathan (Michelle) Sims of Lansing, Kansas; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Thomas (Kaye) Cage, John Willard Cage, Eva Renee (Marlyn) Nevels, Teresa Cage, and Andrew (Connie) Cage; his beloved uncle, Herman Mitchem Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Though he is no longer with us in body, David's love, wisdom, and memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, and he will be loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
