Derrick was born to Brenda Estell on 7/21/1968. Growing up Derrick spent the majority of his childhood in Kansas City, KS. He attended Quindaro Elementary, Northwest Middle and Washington HS where he graduated class of 1986.
Derrick had a great love of family. He often spoke of the adventures he and older sisters had growing up. He enjoyed spending the summers with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and most importantly his cousins.
On November 1, 1997 Derrick married the absolute girl of his dreams Tresa Goodlow and to that union was born Derrick Estelle II. Together they would blend and raise a family.
Derrick had such a heart for the youth in his community, especially young men. Because of that passion he started the KC Bluedogs. The Bluedogs was born from Derrick not agreeing with the way one of our sons (Dominyk) was being coached. He and the coach agreed to disagree, and the coach stated “if you do not like the way I coach than get your own team”. One of his famous quotes was “you ain’t said nothing slick to a can of oil” and boom the BLUEDOGS was born. Over the next 23 years he put his all into his program. Coaching football, basketball, rec ball, and traveling AAU teams. Giving kids hope by handing them jerseys to keep them off the streets and something to focus on. Thousands of children have through the KC Bluedogs program. Not to be forgotten he also coached for Washington High School and West Middle School.
Derrick went from being Doc E, to being a wonderful father, an amazing husband, and most importantly a minister of the gospel. He accepted his calling into the ministry in 1999. He was very passionate about the word of God. Sharing it wherever he went. From teaching the Lord’s prayer to his players and organizing youth activities in the church. Derrick’s personality drew children to him in groves.
After retiring from coaching, spending time with his family is what he enjoyed the most. The grandkids brought him so much joy. He was such a great “Gpa” as they affectionately called him.
Derrick leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life for 28 years and 4 months Tresa Estelle. His children, Ashley, Dominyk (Jasmine), Sharod “Mooke”, Adrian “Peanut”, Dominque “Poppi” Derron, and Derrick II “Rick”. Thirteen grandchildren, Malachi, Dominyk II, Daniya, Iyanna, Penelope, Cayden, Sharod “lil Mooke”, Amora, Milo, Sari, Shameik, Serenity and Jamyla. Four siblings, Misty, Tracey, Erica and Reggie Jr. A host of nieces, nephews, family and friends. Not to forget the Bluedog family.
