Rev. Don Anthony Cavil, 57, passed away February 13, 2019 in Shawnee, Kansas. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Friday, February 22, 2019 at St. Andrews Missionary Baptist Church, 5300 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas 66104. Visitation will be from 9:00-10:30am preceding the service at the church. Interment with Honors will be held at 2:30pm, Friday, February 22, 2019 at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Rev. Don Anthony Cavil was Born on May 19, 1961 in Des Moines, Iowa to Emma Jean Carter.
Rev. Don accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Des Moines Technical High School where he participated in ROTC and Graduated with Honors. Don Joined the United States Marine Corps in 1985 and was Honorably discharged in 1988. He attended Simpson College where he became a Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and after entering the ministry he attended Carver Bible College.
Rev. Don relocated to Kansas City, KS and became a member of New Beginnings Missionary Baptist Church in 1996 under the tutelage of Rev. Erodney Perry. In 1998 he accepted his call into the ministry and served as an Associate Minister. Rev. Don loved to preach the word, teach the word and sing the word. He was licensed and Ordained in November 2001 and became Assistant Pastor in 2015.
On August 1, 1998 Don married the Love of his Life Mary E. Spearman and they blended together a beautiful family. They loved and cherished their children Lil Donny, DaeDae and Franie . He cherished dearly his two beautiful granddaughters Kayla and Skye.
Don had serval jobs in Sales but found the most joy in Entrepreneurship where he owned a Mortgage Brokerage and serval online businesses. Don was a dreamer and a giver, God gave him many visions and his life’s goal was to create ministry thru business models that would help others come to Christ thru Ministry, create a living and become entrepreneurs. In 2004-2005 Rev. Don had it on his heart to renovate the upper Sanctuary of his wife’s home church, Mt. Zion A.M.E Zion Church in Argentine, KS. Those renovations allowed the Congregation to move back into the Church with a new vigor for worship.
With the blessings of Rev. Perry, God lead Rev. Don and his wife Mary to start Abundant Grace Ministries in 2018. Don’s vision to help others build successful lives thru ministry and entrepreneurship was well on its way.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Jene Carter; and his siblings, Ventral Tyiska and William “Billy” Cavil.
Rev. Don is survived by his beloved wife Mary E. Cavil; his God Mother Venable James; his children Donny Meeks, Des Monies, IA, DaAndra Hullaby (Ressa), Kansas City, MO and Rev. Frances Spearman, Shawnee, KS; his grandchildren Kayla A. Henderson and Rebekah Skye Meeks; his brother, Rev. Chester Cavil (Ruby) of Atlanta, GA and sister-in-law Theresa Cavil of Des Monies, IA; as well as a host of brother and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and special friends.
