Donald Lynn Don Freeman

Donald “Don” Freeman, 56, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, formerly of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away Monday, January 16, 2012 at home. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18 at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to Sunflower Hospice of Lansing or the American Cancer Society.

Don was born April 14, 1955 in Kansas City, Kansas to Lloyde and Maxine Freeman and grew up in Linwood, Kansas, where he graduated from High School in 1973. Don began work for General Motors in 1978. He transferred to the Oklahoma City GM Plant in 1979 where he met the love of his life, Dorcas. They married in 1980. He was a member of United Auto Workers Local 31. Don was an avid golfer and sports fan. He loved all Kansas City sports, the Royals, the Chiefs, and KU basketball. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to joke around with anyone. He wrote poetry, loved to sing and was an avid deer hunter.

Don was preceded in death by his father Lloyde Freeman, and his son Gregory Paul Freeman. He is survived by his mother Maxine Freeman of Linwood, Kansas; his wife of 31 years, Dorcas Amelia Freeman of Tonganoxie, Kansas; his daughter Rebekah Anne Freeman and her fiancée Patrick Bell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; his siblings LeVerne Freeman of Linwood, Kansas; Cordia Fritz and husband Richard of Kansas City, Kansas; Mike Freeman and wife Debbie of Gladstone, Missouri; Curtis Freeman and wife Pam of Basehor, Kansas; Karen Sifford and husband Keith of Basehor, Kansas; Sharon Fritz and husband Randy of Linwood, Kansas and Belinda Lusk of Kansas City, Missouri, as well as a host of relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.

The family wishes to give special thanks to April Harper of “Harper’s Helpers” for her loving care, as well as Sunflower Hospice for their compassion during this difficult time.
