Donald was born on December 1, 1947 in Kansas City, Kansas, to Cecil and Wanda Luttrell. Donald completed the 12th grade and was then drafted into the United States Air Force. He served in the Air Force for four years. He was a mechanic and a truck driver as well as doing odd jobs. For the majority of his career, he was an over the road truck driver. He retired in 2017 to take care of his wife, Edna.
Donald was preceded in death by Edna Luttrell (wife,) parents Cecil and Wanda Luttrell, brother Mike Luttrell, and sister Sandy Ladd. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Rebecca Jurado and fiancé Bryan Shields of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Jennifer Byers and her husband Chris of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Donald Luttrell Jr. and his wife Jamie of Basehor, Kansas, and Michelle Cuc-Guarcas and her husband Gilmer of Liberty, Missouri; 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, along with many other family members and friends.
