Donald (Greg) VanDyke, 54 of Perry, Ks. passed away January 18, 2012 from injuries sustained in a car accident.
Greg was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and anything that involved the outdoors. If it involved horsepower and tires, he was all in. One of his favorite pastimes was getting in the wind with his legs straddling a rumbling Harley Davidson.
He lived his life by the principle of LDRSHIP (Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage.) Family was of the utmost priority. With open arms and a sympathetic ear, you could always count on Greg. He was the kind of man that would make any sacrifice for the ones he loved.
He was born and raised in Kansas City, KS. Throughout his life, he had resided in other areas, but Kansas was always home. Fresh out of school, Greg served our country in the United States Navy. After his service, Greg spent many years as an over the road transport driver. Making many friends along the way, rarely did he meet a stranger. Recently, he acquired a position with MC Racing, an automotive performance shop in Overland Park, Ks. It had been his dream to work around muscle cars, and high end race cars.
Greg was preceded in death by his grandparents Albert and Twanda Wake and his niece Keighley Ann Alyea. He is survived by his father, Donald VanDyke; mother, Sharon Woods; three brothers, Chris VanDyke (Collette), Rick VanDyke (Kem), Patrick Hayes (Shannon); one sister, Deborah L.VanDyke-Petit (John); three sons, Gregory Tyner (Lisa), Donald Samek (Candida), Jeremy Samek (Jessica); two daughters, Erica Tyner, April Fox (Travis); his significant other, Rhonda Holmes; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Many people were blessed to be in his life, and they will all miss "Shadow"
