Doris Ellen Heerwald Green, 99, went to be with our Heavenly Father on January 24, 2026. She was born to Otto and Ruth LaBorne Heerwald in Concordia, Missouri on May 17, 1926. She was the second of four daughters and grew up there until she was 16. The family moved to Kansas City, MO where she graduated from Westport High School in 1944.
One summer Doris worked in Chicago for the Navy Department and lived with an aunt. Later she served as a secretary for Joyce Hall. On June 30, 1945 she married the love of her life, Harold V. Green of Sweet Springs, MO. They were married 71 years prior to his passing in 2016.
Doris was a member of First Christian Church of Bonner Springs, KS. She had been active in CWF and a TOPs group. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and making braided rugs. She loved the Rocky Mountains, fishing, birds (especially bluebirds and hummingbirds), dogwood and redbud trees, and plants and flowers. She passed on these passions to her children and grandchildren. Doris was a beloved matriarch.
She is survived by three children; Lonna Denning, Randy Green(Karmi), and Lisa Nasternak Barron(Steve); seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter, and her sister Joyce Rice McHenry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son-in-law, Joe Nasternak, Sr.;and sisters, Jean Leonard and Ruby Pence.
A visitation will be held at Chapel Hill - Butler Funeral Home, located at 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas, 66112, on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm, with a funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm. A graveside service is scheduled for Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 11:00 am at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, located at 12600 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas, 66109.
Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Denning, Brandon Green, Trenton Green, Bryce Holt, Joe Nasternak, and Jeff Zeller.
