

Doris Jackson, 89, of Tonganoxie, passed away Friday, June 26th at Tonganoxie Nursing Center. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 1st with funeral services following at 2:00 p.m. all at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Palco, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Partners of Kansas.
Doris was born January 31, 1926 in Hill City, KS to Charles and Katie Fountain. She graduated from Hill City High School in 1946 and received a teaching certificate in Hays, KS. For a short time, she taught four students in a one-room school house in Hill City. Doris married David Elden Jackson on Nov. 9, 1944. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she retired after working 25 years as a cook for the KCK school system. She also cooked at the Green Lantern Café in Tonganoxie for a time. Doris was an active member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in KCK and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She volunteered with the girl scouts, boy scouts and cub scouts. Doris enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting and needlepoint, and could always be counted on to cook a delicious meal.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Katie (Morse) Fountain; her husband, David E. Jackson; her sister, Norma Gavin; and four brothers, Cyrille, Duane, Clair and Gordon Fountain.
Doris is survived by her sister, Mary Rasdall; her children, Ruth E. Jackson, Kathleen M. Trisler (Dennis), Bruce D. Jackson, and Craig C. Jackson (Patty); as well as seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two more on the way.
