

Dorothy J. Yancey, 92, passed away February 18, 2014. A visitation will be held Saturday, February 22nd from 10:00-11:00 am with services to follow at 11:00 am at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS 66112. Interment will follow services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
Dorothy was born June 6, 1921 to Rudolph R. Roark and Gertrude E. (Franz) Roark. She spent her life in the Kansas City area. Dorothy graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in 1939. During WWII, Dorothy worked at Sunshine Biscuit. She was married to Allen “Barney” Byron Yancey for 24 years before his passing. Dorothy was a homemaker and mother. She enjoyed bowling with her bowling league at Sunset Bowl and won many trophies. Dorothy enjoyed couponing and refunding but took great joy in babysitting her grandchildren.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marjorie Palmer; brother, Herbert Skinner; and Son-In-Law, Larry E. Lakey. She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Sherilyn Lakey, Janice (Jerry) Kaspar, and Kathy (Ken) Cruden; grandsons, Steve Lakey, Todd (Doreen) Howell, Craig (Sarah) Lakey and Kellen Cruden; granddaughters, Leanna Kaspar, Adrienne (Mark) Epperson and Kim Kaspar; and great-grandchildren, Aaron Lakey, Taylor Lakey, Craig Epperson, Noah Lakey, Joseph Epperson and Kason Kaspar-Cordova.
