Dorsey "Mike" Henry Aldridge Jr.

Dorsey Henry “Mike” Aldridge, Jr., 83, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026. He was born on July 2, 1942, in Freeport, Texas. In his youth, Mike moved with his family to Kansas City, Kansas, where he attended local schools and graduated from Washington High School in 1960.

In 1968, Mike married Violet Marie, and together they welcomed two children, Michael and Lisa. Though their marriage later ended, they shared many meaningful years raising their family.

Mike proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was stationed aboard the U.S.S. Iwo Jima, carrying out his duties with diligence and integrity. Following his military service, Mike built a long and steady career as a bookkeeper, eventually retiring from Kansas City Power and Light after many years of dedicated service.

Mike will be remembered for the simple joys that brought him happiness. He treasured summer camping trips with his children, traveling to destinations across the country and creating lasting memories. A devoted Kansas City Chiefs fan, he held season tickets for many years and rarely missed a game. Mike also enjoyed reading, watching ice hockey, playing pool, and challenging himself with puzzles.

He was a devoted son who lovingly cared for his mother, Verles, during the final years of her life. In his later years, Mike resided at a veterans retirement community in Topeka, Kansas, where he formed friendships and enjoyed frequent visits to Prairie Band Casino, often spending hours at the slot machines.

Mike is survived by his former wife, Violet Newman; his son, Michael (Cara) Aldridge; his daughter, Lisa (Matthew) Smith; six grandchildren, Ariel, Conner, Kayla, Ben, Evan, and Emily; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dorsey Aldridge, Sr. and Verles Reynolds Aldridge.

Mike will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady work ethic, and the love he had for his family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112. In lieu of flowers, family recommends donations be made to Midland Care Hospice House. https://midlandcare.org/support-us/donate-online/
