

Eugene “Gene” Jesse Cox, 59, passed away October 17, 2013. A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 23rd at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM with the funeral service at 12:00 PM. Interment will follow services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association.
Gene was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Eugene E. and Thelma Cox. He spent his life in Kansas City, Kansas as a resident of Wyandotte County. He met Juanita Smith when he was 15 and they were married January 12, 1974 when he was 19. Together, Gene and Juanita had 2 children, Scotty and Annquenette. Gene worked for Midwest Products for 10 years and retired from Dempsey Inc. after 30 years. He was a member of the NRA and was an outdoor man. He loved camping, hunting, and fishing and loved to take trips to Cabela’s with his son, son-in-law, and granddaughter. When Gene would be inside he liked to watch old John Wayne shows and Alaska State Troopers. In his younger years, Gene was on a bowling league with his aunts and uncles and won an “I tried trophy”, which he did not want to accept.
Gene was preceded in death by his mom and dad; grandparents, Lee and Jewel Cox and Ernest and Hazel Cox; sisters, Sheryl Lopez and Candy Cox; brother-in-law , David Smith; father-in-law, Clifford Smith; son-in-law, Frankie Quick and friend Porter Hunt. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Juanita Cox; son, Scotty and wife Krystal Cox; daughter, Annquenette and husband Kalen Warren; granddaughters, Lily Warren and Miranda Meschino; mother-in-law, Betty Smith and companion Wayne Glass; brother, Marvin Cox; sister, Regina Smith; brother-in-laws; Raymond Lopez, Bobby Smith and wife Pam, Danny Smith and wife Theresa; and sister-in-law Sandy Smith.
