

Floyd F. Cordonier, Jr., 91, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2016. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 26th from 12-2PM with funeral at 2PM at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., KCKS 66112. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Floyd was born June 1, 1924 to Floyd F. Sr. and Mildred (Knight) Cordonier. He grew up in Wathena, KS before moving to KCK. Floyd attended NW Jr. High, graduated from Wyandotte High School and attended Kansas City Kansas Community College. At age 11, he was the winner of the first ever Soap Box Derby held in KCK on August 1, 1935. Later that year, Floyd competed in the All-American Soap Box Derby held in Akron, Ohio with the help of his father and employees at Fred Olson Auto Supply. Floyd married Marion Ann Luscombe and they were married for 28 years before her passing in 2005. He joined the United States Marines and served during WWII on USS Eldorado which was the command ship for the invasion of Tinian, Saipan and Iwo Jima. Upon his return, he worked for Western Electric before working for his dad at Kansas Auto Supply and eventually becoming owner and opening three stores. In his free time, Floyd enjoyed bird hunting and spending time with his bird dogs, fishing in Canada, and golfing.
Floyd is preceded in death by his wife, Marion and his parents. He is survived by his children, Jim (Kathy) Cordonier, Pam Knouse and Michael Cordonier; sister, Mary Duncan; 2 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
