

Frankie Griggs, 92, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Sept. 13, 2012 at Presbyterian Manor. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, Sept. 17 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., KCK. Friends may call from 10-11 at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Manor’s Good Samaritan Program or Vitas Hospice of Lenexa.
Frankie was born to William and Myrtle (Wyatt) Hurst in Corbin, Texas. They moved to the Kansas City area when she was young and she graduated from Turner High School, where she played basketball and tuba. Frankie married Thomas E. Griggs in late 1940 soon before he was drafted into the service. She was a longtime, active member of Victory Hills Baptist Church. Frankie worked for Western Auto then Prudential Insurance as an underwriter for over 28 years, retiring at age 59. Family was Frankie’s main focus – she would sew clothes for her grandchildren and was an excellent cook, her macaroni and cheese and turkey tetrazzini were amazing. Frankie loved the spending time in the outdoors, especially flower gardening, camping and boating.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Myrtle, her husband Thomas E. Griggs, her siblings Geneva Donley, Wilbur Hurst, Edith Serwon, Clarence Hurst, Lawrence Hurst and Jackey Hurst.
Frankie is survived by her son Gerald Griggs and his wife Mary Beth, granddaughters Laura Crowley and Malinda Groce, step granddaughters Sue and Liz Campbell; great grandchildren Sara Crowley-Morrow and her husband Jeremy, Christal Crowley, Joey Groce and Thomas Groce; great great-grandchildren Jacob Lawrence and Alexis Crowley; good friend Ruby Oberweather as well as numerous other friends and acquaintances.
