Gary W. Marx, Sr., 78, of Leavenworth, Kansas, passed away April 29, 2017. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 4th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3rd at the funeral home. Interment with honors will follow the service in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Encompass Hospice.
Gary was born August 25, 1938 in Kansas City, Kansas to Matthew and Cleta (Jones) Marx. He graduated from Argentine High School and served his country in the United States Marines. Gary married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Womack on March 15, 1958 and they enjoyed 58 years of marriage until her passing in December. They were members of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Missouri. He worked for many years as a production planner for Owens Corning Fiberglass, after his retirement in 1999, Gary worked full time in the lawn and garden department of Home Depot in Leavenworth. He was an avid gardener and very active in both bowling and softball. Gary played both until very recently and was voted the MVP for the Senior Softball World Series for his pitching skills. He was the consummate family man and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Carolyn Sue Marx; his son, Robert W. Marx; his brother, Ronald Marx; and his sister, Teresa Moreland.
He is survived by his children, Gary Marx, Jr. and his wife Gayle of Basehor, his daughter, Deborah Barrett of Leavenworth; his siblings, Bruce Marx and his wife Connie of Florida, Dorothy Francis of Blue Springs, Missouri, and Roger Marx and his wife Melinda of Shawnee, Kansas; as well as eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson and many other relatives and friends.
