George Adam Sharp, Jr., 82, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 26th. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 30th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, July 31st at White Church Christian Church, 2200 North 85th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Interment with Honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Growing Place at White Church Christian Church, the Yellowstone Park Foundation, 222 East Main Street, Suite 301, Bozeman, Montana 59715, or the Hospice House at Olathe Medical Center, 20375 West 151st, Suite 363, Olathe, Kansas 66061.
George was born June 8, 1932 in KCK to George and Elsie Sharp. A lifelong KC area resident, he graduated high school and then served in the Coast Guard from 1952-56, where he served as a radioman and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After his service, he eloped with Alice Hardie on January 11, 1957 to Ponca City, Oklahoma. George worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years, retiring in 1989. After his retirement, he worked as a school bus driver from 1989-2010 and also drove the bus for the Special Olympics and any other charitable organization he was involved in. George was a Mason and also very involved with the Boy Scouts, Troop 392. He loved traveling with Alice especially if he was going to fly fish while he was there and he always loved spending time with his family.
George was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elsie Sharp and his sister, Nina Paterson.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Alice Sharp; his children, Glen Sharp (Alice), Cheryl Sharp and David Sharp; his brothers, Jerry Sharp (Verna) and Dale Sharp (Brenda); his grandsons, Matthew Sharp (Cassie), Brett Sharp (Erica) and Zachary Sharp; as well as his great-grandchildren, Haylan and Luke Sharp.
