

Gerald Lorfing, 88 and Mary Lorfing, 86 of KCK passed away suddenly in their home on Saturday, August 9, 2014. Gerald served in the US Navy during WW2 and was a recipient of the Purple Heart; he then had a long and successful career at Phillips 66. Mary worked her way up in the Sunshine Biscuit Co. to become the first and only female president of Bakers Local 184-L. Mary and Gerald had a long and loving marriage and would have celebrated 69 years of marriage in December. Besides the love they shared for each other and family they enjoyed gardening, fishing and playing cards with friends. They were also very active in their church. Mary and Gerald were preceded in death by their son Michael and Gerald’s sister Jackie Duncan, and brother, Emil (Buzz) Lorfing. They are survived by Mary’s sister Barbara Jaskot, their son Rick and his wife Sharon, two granddaughters Melanie and Nicole and 5 grandsons; Bryan, Kevin, Erik, Jon, Chris and 9 great-grandchildren. The visitation will be held Saturday, August 16th from 10:00AM-12:00PM with the memorial service at 12:15PM and a luncheon to follow at Zion United Church of Christ, 2711 N. 72nd Street, KCK 66109. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to Zion United Church of Christ or to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208.
