

Gerald D Brownawell, 95, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 3 at Resthaven Cemetery Chapel in Trenton, Missouri. Interment will follow in Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, March 2 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Gerald was born on November 26, 1916 near Spickard, Missouri to Frank and Fern Brownawell. He enjoyed telling stories of growing up on a farm in North Missouri and riding his pony Sparkle. He went hunting with his uncle Leland and enjoyed being around all his aunts and uncles at his grandparents’ farm . Gerald was a car inspector of the Santa Fe Railroad for 30 years, and retired in 1981. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church. He loved gardening and was always out in the yard, The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers for making Gerald’s life more enjoyable.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Catherine in 2004, his sister Ilene McDaniel, and daughter-in-law Eva Brownawell.
He is survived by his sister Mildred Stamper of Princeton, Missouri; sons Jerry Brownawell and wife Judy of Kansas City, Kansas, Dale Brownawell of State College, Pennsylvania, Lowell Brownawell and wife Sue of Kansas City, Kansas; grandchildren Kevin Brownawell of Washington D.C., Jay Brownawell of Merriam, Kansas, Stephanie Leiker of Kansas City, Kansas, Lori Brownawell of Gladstone, Missouri, Leah Brownawell of Olathe, Kansas and Jamie Oswald of Kansas City, Kansas as well as eight great-grandchildren.
