Herminia Vargas was born in Puebla, Mexico in 1926 and passed away in Kansas City, MO on April 5, 2011. One of eight children, she was born into a landowning family whose fortunes were reversed during the Mexican Revolution. Her life was a chronicle of someone who came here to pursue the American dream to better her life, and in the process, made life better for other people. She became a naturalized U.S. citizen and practiced a strong work ethic that supported her generosity towards family. She retired early from TWA to help her family in the restaurant business. Afterwards, she embarked on a second career, caring for the sick and elderly in their homes. She was a beloved caretaker.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eliseo Vargas and Carmen Espinoza, of blessed memory, and her brothers Agustin , Juan and Paquito Vargas. She leaves behind her sister Carmen Sack and brother-in-law Klaus Sack, both of the home; her brother Gilbert Vargas and sister-in-law Jude of Independence, MO; sisters Elisa Robles and Gloria André of Puebla, Mexico. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews on both sides of the border.
Many thanks to the wonderful caregivers at Kansas City Hospice, her home health team, and to the many people, friends and strangers alike, who offered prayers for her.
Her faith in God was exemplified by her selfless devotion and acts of loving kindness. Herminia, the seeds you planted in us will live on in our hearts. We will never forget you.
