

Jack D. Phillips, 84, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Garden Terrace of Overland Park. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Jack was born March 8, 1928 in Kansas City, Kansas to William and Hazel (Brown) Phillips. A lifelong area resident, Jack graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1946. He was a Frogman for the United States Marine Corps at the end of World War II, and he attended Kansas University. Jack was a homebuilder, owning and operating Phillips Construction for several years, before working in Labor Relations for Housing and Urban Development for 27 years, before retiring in 1997. He was a long-time season ticket holder and fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. A true outdoorsman, Jack enjoyed spending time at the Lake Home he built on The Lake of the Ozarks, where he spent his time boating, and tinkering on his house and property.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly Phillips; his son, Ted Phillips; and 1 daughter, Laura Farris.
He is survived by his daughter, Susan Phillips of Merriam, Kansas; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
