

James C. Manis, 94, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012, at his home in Kansas City, Kansas. Memorial Services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Grinter Chapel United Methodist Church, 7819 Swartz Road, Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the church.
James was born July 16, 1918 in Warrensburg, Missouri to Enoch and Julia Manis, and he had lived in the Kansas City Area most of his life. He was a General Superintendent, working mostly for J. A. Tobin Construction Company, and he retired from John Rohrer Contracting in 1987. He was a Navy Veteran of W.W.II, a member of the Laborers Union, Locals 1290 and 663, and he was an active member of Grinter Chapel United Methodist Church, serving in many different capacities, including Trustee. James enjoyed collecting coins and watching sports, especially when the KU Jayhawks, the Kansas City Chiefs or the Kansas City Royals were playing. He loved his family, and always gave of himself spiritually, physically, and emotionally, as he was always ready and willing to help out in any way he could.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his 20 brothers and sisters; 2 daughters, Lotus “Judy” Scott and Nancy Holt; a daughter-in-law, Linda Manis; and a great-granddaughter, Coli Lafferty.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Maxine Manis of the home; 3 children, James “Jimmy” Manis, Jr. of Kansas City, Kansas, Penelope Schau and her husband Tom of Baldwin, Kansas, and Randall Manis of Kansas City, Kansas; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
