Jerry Rex McKinney, lovingly known as JR, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the age of 87. Though he has left this world, his humor, warmth, and love of life will live on in all who knew him.
Born December 4, 1937, in Waterloo, Iowa, Jerry proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and Reserves from 1956 to 1962.
After his service, he built a family and a life rooted in hard work, laughter, and love.
Jerry spent 33 dedicated years working at General Motors Fairfax in Kansas City, Kansas, before enjoying a well-earned retirement. Retirement, however, didn’t slow him down—he found his happy place on the golf course, whether playing or serving as a Marshall at Victory Hills Golf Course. On May 15, 2000 Jerry holding a 9 Wood, hit 177 yards for a hole in one on Hole #13. Sports were the rhythm of Jerry’s life. He loved playing, coaching, and watching them, and he never missed an opportunity to share that passion with family and friends. His competitive spirit was matched only by his
quick wit and generous heart. To know Jerry was to love him.
Jerry was predeceased by his beloved wife, Gloria, as well as one sister and four brothers. He is survived by his three children, stepchildren, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his
brother Steve, many nieces and nephews, and a wide circle of friends who became family. Jerry lived by the words of Mac Davis: “It’s hard to be humble when you’re perfect in every way.” If you knew Jerry, you know.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Tuesday October 14, 2025 at 10:00 am at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 North 94th Street in Kansas City, Kansas where friends and family will gather to honor his remarkable life, share stories, and carry forward his laughter and legacy.
