John Frank Burns was born on February 4, 1934, in Pensacola, Florida, to Matthew Blue and Rozell Thomas. He was their only child. He was preceded in death by; his parents, his adoptive father, Elijah (Pops) Burns, and one sister, Katie Burns. John enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951, and became a paratrooper, about which he had many interesting and exciting stories to tell. After his military experience he joined his Pops in Kansas City, Kansas and worked for a plastic company. He later went to work for Graves Truck Line (ANR), until he retired. John married Suzanne Montgomery in 1982, to their union three children, Jason, John and Jennifer, were born. John was a dedicated provider for his family; he loved his children and stuck close to them, until his death. John loved trains, planes and automobiles; he could fix anything. If he didn't have the parts he would make the parts! He loved to sit and counsel with his sons on the front porch. He always took in people (to feed them and let them rest). He was a sentimental man who cried at old movies like, “Cool Hand Luke”, and “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”; he always wanted justice to win. John passed away at the home on July 15, 2014. He leaves to mourn his passing: three children, Jason, John and Jennifer Burns; three brothers; two sisters; five grandchildren, Tiesha, Janiya, John, Jayshon and Ceiona; one great grandson, Tyvon; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 21, 2014, 11:00 am at Christ the Savior Baptist Church located at 914 Splitlog Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation is from 9-11 am at the church. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at 701 North 94th Street in Kansas City, Kansas.
