Jon C Schuley, age 58, of Kansas City, KS, passed away on Oct. 20, 2024 of a heart attack. Jon was born on July 26, 1966 in Furth military hospital near Nuremberg, Germany. He was the son of Marcia and Phillip Schuley. After a year at Ft. Sill, Ok., the family moved to Junction City, KS where his father practiced law. In the fifth grade, they moved to Manhattan, KS.
Jon’s favorite childhood book was always “The Little Engine that Could” and he cheered as the little engine reached the top of the hill. From this he learned that success came when you worked hard and persisted. He approached everything in life with this dedication. An entrepreneur at heart, Jon set up a successful lawn mowing business at the age of 12, hauling the mower behind his bike to his clients.
Jon graduated from Manhattan High School in 1984 and enlisted in the Army Reserve. He trained as an MP at Fort McClellan, AL. He remained in the reserves for six years and attained the rank of Sgt. He attended Kansas State, then transferred and graduated from Rockhurst University in 1991 with a degree in Marketing.
On May 22, 1993 Jon married Christine Ryan. They had an amazing marriage and raised two children together in addition to partnering in business. In 1997, they started PayTime, Inc., which provided time and attendance systems and payroll processing to upwards of 200 clients in the Kansas City area, employing as many as ten staff at a time. In 2011, they sold the payroll side of the business and Jon focused on the timekeeping side.
In 2023, Jon and Christine purchased ecoPRO Wildlife Solutions, a wildlife management company, with their son, Ryan. In addition to his many business interests, Jon cared about the less fortunate and volunteered to help them whenever he could. In 2013, he organized a city-wide Thanksgiving meal and clothing drive for a local charity, Care of Poor People.
Jon will be remembered as a friend to many and a champion of the underdog. He was extremely proud of his children and the wonderful adults they have become. He was incredibly loyal and would do anything for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Christine, daughter Kenzie Brandt (Duncan), son Ryan, grandson Hannibal Brandt, mother Marcia Smith Schuley and sister Tara Schuley. He was predeceased by his father, Phillip.
