Kenny was born July 29, 1970 in Kansas City, Kansas. He lived his first 30 years in Kansas City, Kansas until he bought his home in Basehor, Kansas. Kenny was born the fifth child of Vern and Joyce Leiker and liked to say his life was perfect until the birth of his baby sister, Natalie, in 1976 and then his nephews, Kevin, Jr. and Christopher.
Kenny started working part-time in the construction business at the age of 14. After graduating from Piper High School in 1988 he proudly went on to work full time with his Dad and brothers. He liked to talk about his rides to work with his Dad and the work site shenanigans with his brothers. He said those were some of his best memories. He thought his Dad walked on water. After his Dad retired in 2010, Kenny went to work building water towers all over the United States, but being away from home was not for him. He missed being with family so he came back to Kansas and started a construction business of his own which he was doing up until he hurt his back and was physically unable to work in the last couple of years.
Kenny liked to refer to himself as Mom’s baby boy and he was the classic “Mama’s Boy” both in his mind and reality. There was rarely a day that he missed calling his Mom and Dad to see if they were okay and to talk about his day. He often said hearing his Mom’s voice always made him feel better. He did, however, like to remind her that the Hot Wheels track’s favorite target was his backside.
To Kenny, family was everything. As his nieces and nephews grew into adulthood, he dedicated many hours talking to and trying to really get to know them. He loved to call just to talk. He would share stories from his “prime” years, sometimes to his Mother’s dismay.
He really loved being “team leader” online with his family and friends. He was so proud to finally claim the title of “Big Uncle K” from his older brother, at least online. Kenny also loved his music, the louder the better. He wanted to feel the bass in his soul.
Kenny was an avid dog lover and had two Australian Shepherds, Buddy and Charlie that he thought of as his children. His dogs were extremely loyal to him. He often said they were almost human in their actions, especially when he was unable to get around much. Unfortunately, he lost Buddy in 2020.
Kenny is survived by his parents, Vern and Joyce Leiker, his five siblings, Kevin (Pamela) Leiker, Susan (Doug) Shriver, Kathryn Cunningham, Steven Leiker, Natalie (Rich) Gilliam. He had 22 nieces and nephews and 13 great nieces and nephews. Kenny is also survived by his dog, Charlie, who was his faithful companion.
Preceding him in death was his only child, Gabriel. His grandparents, Alphonse and Alice Leiker and Robert and Dorothy Lynch.
Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's Church, 1086 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Visitation is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. with the funeral mass to begin at 10:00 a.m.
