

Laurene “Rene” R. Salyer, at 99 years of age, passed away on September 30, 2013. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am on Friday, October 4th at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street in Kansas City, Kansas. Friends may call from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Rene was born September 1, 1914 in Salina, Kansas, to George and Mae (Fields) Warren. She moved to Topeka, Kansas at an early age where she lived until her Senior Year of high school, when she moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she finished her senior year, and graduated from Wyandotte High School. On December 31, 1934, she married Everett Ambrose Salyer, and started a lifetime partnership, as Rene not only took care of the home, she also ran the office of his Kansas City Kansas dental practice until they both retired in 1986. She was a member of the Dental Wives Auxiliary, several dance clubs involving Sing, Polka and Ballroom Dancing, as well as a member of Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Olathe, Kansas. Always active, Rene enjoyed staying in shape by walking, exercising, and working out, long before it became popular, keeping fit well into her 80’s. She also loved traveling internationally with her husband, but she especially loved spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren.
As the last surviving member of her generation within her family, she took pride in serving as the Matriarch for 5 generations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Everett Ambrose Salyer when he died in 2007.
Survivors include 3 children, Dr. Kenneth E. Salyer & his wife Luci of Dallas, Texas, Sandra Hart & husband Dr. Bob Hart of Richardson, Texas, and Kathleen Salyer-Waymire & husband Charles of Paola, Kansas; 8 grandchildren, Katelin Salyer Schebler & husband Jon, Kenneth E. Salyer, Jr., Lynette Hart, Leigh Green, Bobby Hart, Kathleen Crane, James Sparks and Gerald Sparks; 14 great grandchildren, Kenneth Salyer, III, Hartman Green, Everett Green, Adelle Green, Ashley Salyer, Thomas Salyer, Matthew Crane & wife Kendra, Amy Burgardt, Kara Burgardt, Austin Burgardt, Samuel Hart, Joey Larsen, Lily Hart and Luke Hart; and 1 great-granddaughter, Maisyn Crane.
