

Lucious McKindra was born December 7, 1934, to Ruben Frank McKindra and Lillie Marks McKindra, in Springfield, Arkansas. On Friday, October 27, 2017 around 6:15 a.m., Lucious McKindra transitioned from labor to reward as he heard the Master say “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” He was preceded in death by his father, mother, nine siblings, Thesus, Zelma, Rufus, Norman, Quines, Marion, Ito, Benjamin, Zodia, and his loving wife Betty Ruth Sims McKindra. Lucious grew up in Springfield, Arkansas in the Union Chapel community, where he was a member of the Mt. Hebrew CME Church. In 1953, he graduated from Conway County Training School in Menifee, Arkansas and briefly attended Tuskegee University in Alabama before returning to Arkansas to care for family. In December of 1955, he moved to Kansas City and shortly thereafter began employment as a local Truck Driver at the Standard Rendering Company where he remained for forthy-four years of faithful service until retirement. On June 19, 1960 Lucious was united in marriage to the love of his life, Betty Ruth Sims McKindra. Three children were born of this union, Cameron, Karla and Kelli. In 1985, this loving couple celebrated 25 years of marriage with a renewal of their marriage vows and again in 2010 celebrated 50 years of marriage. In total 55 years before Betty’s passing. In 1956, Luciuos joined Saint Peters CME Church where he faithfully served for over sixty years. He served in various ministries over the years including the Male Chorus, Mass Choir, and Steward Board #3. He dearly loved and was loved by his church family. He was affectionately known as the “Peppermint Man” as each Sunday you could be assured that he had a pocket full of peppermint candy to hand out. Lucious was a faithful and devoted husband, father, and grandfather affectionately known as “Papa” to his nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Lucious dearly loved his family and was very proud to be a member of the Marks and McKindra family. He enjoyed traveling all over the United States with his wife and family, but especially enjoyed attending McKindra and Marks Family Reunions, a tradition started over forty years ago. He loved to reminisce about his adventures growing up in Arkansas. Lucious enjoyed sports, baseball specifically, which he played in his younger years and gardening. Lucious McKindra leaves to cherish his loving memory, two brothers, Freeman McKindra (Wilma) of Little Rock Arkansas and Howard McKindra (Beatrice) of Kansas City Kansas; two sisters Jaunita Robinson and Eloise Woods (Benjamin) both of Silver Springs, Maryland; a son, Cameron McKindra (Kim) of Kansas City, Kansas; two daughters, Karla Robinson (Trent) of Kansas City Missouri and, Kelli Henry (Steven); nine grandchildren: Megan, Jamelle, Victoria, Matthew, Marissa, Mikhi, Sara, Marcelus and Mikayla; two great grandchildren, Zayden and Saint; special friends Paul and Bernice Johnson and Curtis Hammons; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral Service for Lucious McKindra will be held Saturday, November 4, 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter CME Church, 1419 N. 8th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
