Malcolm “Mickey” Charles Britain, 60, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2025, at his son’s home in Kansas City, Kansas, after a courageous battle with colon cancer.
Born in Springfield, Missouri, on October 22, 1964, Mickey built a life defined by hard work, humor, and loyalty. A gifted carpenter who worked in construction, he had a natural talent for building. Mickey was always the first to show up when someone needed a hand — whether it was building a deck, repairing siding, or offering advice on how to get a job done right. He shared his skills generously and took pride in helping others make their projects come to life. His willingness to lend his time, tools, and expertise left a lasting mark on the friends and family who were lucky enough to work alongside him.
Mickey loved the simple things: his grandsons, cheering on the Chiefs while sharing pizza with family and friends, soaking up the sunshine on the lake, and racing his kids in competitive games of Mario Kart (and winning more often than not). His love for fast boats, good company, and long days on the water reflected the way he lived — full of energy, quick wit, and an easy smile.
He is survived by his children, Tanner, Reagan, Heather, and Jared; his grandsons, Tatum, Henry, and Peyton; his sisters, Amy and Donna; brothers, Mat and Mike; nephew, Chad; aunt and uncle, Sandy and Joe; and his beloved Yorkies — JoJo, Bella, and Dudley — who never left his side. He also leaves behind the family he chose – his countless friends. There are too many to name, but you all know who you are.
A celebration of Mickey’s life is being planned for Spring 2026. Friends and loved ones may reach out to his son, Tanner, for more information.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Mickey’s honor to cancer research institutions, continuing his fight through hope and healing for others.
Mickey leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and helping hands. His handiwork and his heart are built into the lives of everyone who knew him — in the decks he helped build, the stories that still make us laugh, and the moments that start with, “Remember when Mickey…”
