Maria Cruz Gutierrez, 84, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Shawnee Gardens in Shawnee, Kansas. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13th at the Cathedral of St. Peter. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas, where the rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. Contributions may be made to the Gutierrez Family. Maria was born May 10, 1927 in Fresnillo, Zacatecas, Mexico to Lucio and Maria Duenias Martinez, and had lived in the Kansas City area since 1962. Survivors include her children, Angela Sarmiento, Teresa Estrada, Jesus Gutierrez, Gilbert Gutierrez, Jose Gutierrez, Alfred Gutierrez, Ruben Gutierrez, Carmen Martell, Frances Benton, Henrietta Soverns, Margret Gutierrez, Mary Helen Gutierrez; 36 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
