Marsha Kay Basey, age 82, passed away on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025.
Marsha was born on October 3, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri to Florence A. Cronowicz and Alexander C. Basey. Her parents owned and operated Basey’s Market in KCK for over 40 years.
She attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Bishop Ward High School in 1962. She continued her education earning an Associate Degree.
Marsha began her distinguished military career with the US Army in 1964 as an Enlisted Private E-1, with the Women’s Army Corp. (WAC). She also spent time with the Army Reserve 326th Area Support Group in KCK. She was an enlisted Sergeant First Class and Chief Warrant Officer. She returned to active duty with the US Army in 1988, retiring in 2003 as a Chief Warrant Officer (WO4). She had over 30 years of service with the US Army, AGR Program and the Army Reserve. While serving in the military she earned the following awards: Meritorious Service Medal (3rd award), Army Commendation Medal (5th award), and the Army Achievement Medal (5th award). She was a lifetime member of the Reserved Officers Association, (ROA), the Disabled American Veterans, chapter 28, Manhattan, Ks. and later Chapter 1, KCK where she served as commander from 2007-2008 and again from 2010-2011.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 64, Pittsburg, Ks. Post 83, Post 188, KCK and currently post 370 Overland Park Ks.
She was also a member of the Red Hat Society, (Crimson Belles)
After retirement, Marsha started line dancing and quickly became an avid dancer. She loved the challenge of learning and mastering hundreds of dances. Marsha was a ray of sunshine, lighting up any room as soon as she walked in. She lived life to the fullest, and had a huge heart, extremely kind and generous. She didn’t know a stranger and went above and beyond to make everyone feel welcome. She brightened the dance floor and is now dancing with the stars in heaven. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Marsha was preceded in death by her parents, her step mother, Stella (Dolinar) Basey and her beloved brother Michael John Basey.
There will be a private interment.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
