

Martin “Marty” Ammon, Jr. 74, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away February 2, 2017 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Masonic and Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 7th at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Friends may call from Noon until 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home preceding the service. Interment with Honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
Marty was born May 17, 1942 in Brookfield, Missouri to Martin and Joy (Whisenand) Ammon, Sr. Raised in Brookfield, he graduated from Northwestern High School in Mendon, Missouri in 1960. Marty served in the U.S. Army in Southeast Asia and Germany where he earned the Good Conduct and Expert Rifleman Medals. He married the love of his life, Margaret Ann Timbers on August 21, 1965. They have lived in the Kansas City area since his Honorable Discharge from the service in 1964. Marty worked for General Motors from 1963-1999, retiring as a Reliability Engineer. He attended Kansas City Kansas Community College, and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, as well as a Perpetual Life Member and Former Grand Master of Delaware Lodge #96. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #726 in Marceline, Missouri and a Member of the National Woody Club. Marty loved NASCAR and was a huge Chicago Blackhawks fan. He also loved restoring antique and classic cars and through the years had a fleet of cars, including a 1965 Mustang, a 1947 Ford, a 1941 Ford Truck, and his prize possession, a 1940 Ford Woody. Marty was also a Home Brewer who built his own Brewing System and competed in National Competitions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Marty is survived by his wife of 51 years, Margaret Ann Ammon of the home; his children, Mary Susan (Ammon) Goodrich and her husband Wayne of Olathe, Kansas, Jennifer Lynn Ammon and Robert Hutchins of Hardin, Missouri, Brian Scott Ammon and his wife Ann of Keller, Texas; six grandchildren, Andria Nikol Goodrich Donnenwerth, Sherry Lynn Dankert, Kathryn Grey Ammon, John Scott Ammon, Emily Ann Couch, and Ethan Martin Ammon; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Nichole Donnenwerth, Sara Nicol Donnenwerth, Alisha Nikole Donnenwerth, and Arianna Lynn Stalzer; as well as many other relatives and friends.
