He was born Marvin Ernest Parker on February 16,1943 in St. Joseph, Missouri to Ernest Lee Parker and Cornelia Eloise (Goff) Parker. He was raised in Kansas City, Kansas by his mother Eloise and his adoptive father Carl Willis Johns. After his adoption, Marvin legally changed his name to Marvin P. Johns.
He was preceded in death by Ernest Parker, Cornelia Eloise Johns and Carl Johns. Marvin leaves behind his wife, Linda Johns and his children, Jeffrey Johns (Tanya) and Denise Daicy; as well as three very special grandchildren: Tevin Schweiger, Whitney Schweiger and Jefferson Johns. He also has a surviving half-brother David Parker, Abilene KS, as well as extended family members and many long-time friends.
Marvin married Linda Sormanti in 1967 and they made their home in the Piper area of Kansas City, Kansas. Together they lovingly raised a son and a daughter and he was so very proud of his three grandchildren. He was a steadfast and eager supporter of his children’s and grandchildren’s endeavors and was the first to brag on all of their accomplishments.
He was a proud member of the Washington High School Class of 1961 and the Bethel Bottom Boys. He attended Donnelly College and Park College. Marvin worked in the insurance industry for 37 years.
He loved Bald Eagles, flying the American Flag, going to the mountains and enjoyed taking scenic photography. He proudly served as Longhouse Chief of the YMCA Y- Indian guides, as a Cubmaster of Boy Scout Troop 3304 and as a YMCA youth soccer coach for many years. Marvin enjoyed a lifelong study and curiosity about all things history, particularly American History.
Marvin was a man of integrity and a peaceful man with fierce loyalty. He is known for his quick one-liners; mixed with a sometimes, wry sense of humor. His friends describe him as witty, caring, flirtatious and stubborn, among many other things.
He definitely knew he was very loved and is so very missed!
