Mary Frances (Dodson) Burton

Mary Frances (Dodson) Burton, 86, died peacefully at her home in Overland Park on Friday, September 19th with her loving family present. She was born January 11, 1928 in Kansas City, Kansas to Oliver E. Dodson, Sr. and Anna (Kersting) Dodson. Mary was of the Catholic faith and graduated from Bishop Ward High School. After graduation, she attended business school and worked for the IRS for over 35 years as a secretary. Mary loved life and was always up for a trip to the boats. If she wasn’t trying her luck at the casino, she could often be found in her garden.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; son, John, and daughter, Theresa; brother, Oliver Dodson, Jr., and sister, Katherine Thatcher. She is survived by her daughters, Christina Shumway, Overland Park, and Mary Shaver (Leroy), Kansas City, Kansas, and son, James Samek (Audrey), Louisburg, Kansas, 14 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren; sisters, Dolores Arnold, Independence; Pat Musil (Jerry), Kansas City, Missouri, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary enjoyed life and being with her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 24th at 1:00 p.m. at Chapel Hill-Butler, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
