Mattie D Jackson

Mattie D. Jackson, age 81, of Kansas City, Missouri received her heavenly reward on July 23, 2026. She was a humble, caring, and kind wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and outside of her family circle she was a loyal and supportive friend.

Mattie was born on January 22, 1945, to Charlie Wilkerson and Frankie Estis in Mangham, Louisiana. She was raised by her mother, Frankie Estis and by her grandfather, Frank Estis.

She attended elementary schools and high school in Mangham, Louisiana and graduated from Alto High School in the Class of 1963.

After high school she attended the Robinson Business College for a semester and then she and her cousin, Earl Whilhite, boarded a Greyhound bus for Kansas City, Kansas in March of 1964.

She later earned a certificate as a paralegal in 1993 from Kansas City Kansas Community College.

She married Al Jackson on April 07, 2001, in Clay County, Kansas City, Missouri.

Mattie loved flower gardening, cooking and baking, fishing, and making ceramic items. Her favorite season was Spring with its budding trees and flowers and the birds singing God’s melodies early each morning. Her favorite holiday was Christmas which she observed and celebrated with her declarations of Christian villages and statutes and with her preparation of banana puddings and German chocolate cakes for family and friends.

She began her working career at AT&T where she worked for 22 years. She retired in 2006 from working as a clerk at various health insurance record keeping companies.

She was a God-fearing and a faithful, long-term member of the Trinity AME Church and its choir and read one of her bibles every day.

Mattie was preceded in death by her grandfather, father, and mother.

Matties leaves behind her husband of 25 years, Al Jackson; her three children, son Alvin Washington (Barbara) of Burnsville, MN, and her daughters Anita Thomas (David) of Kansas City, MO, and Juliet Washington of Atlanta, GA; her sister Ollie Washington of Kansas City, KS; her brother Willie James Estis (Marianne) of Rayville, LA; special cousin Stayce Atkinson (Sam) of Lakewood Village, TX; Al’s son Jonathan Jackson (Erika) of Overland Park, KS; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 3 nieces and 3 nephews including William Hillman; and a host of close and dear relatives and friends that loved her and will miss her dearly.
