Neil Farris Osborne was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 7, 1933; he was deceased in Raytown, Missouri, on November 2, 2020. He is predeceased by his parents, Dorothy L. Osborne (Moore) and Farrell F. Osborne, both of Blue Rapids, Kansas; and brother Duane A. Osborne of Modesto, California. He is survived by brother Bruce L. Osborne of Bonita Springs, Florida. Some of his surviving cousins are Linda Spick, Phillip Osborne, Donald Osborne, Dick Moore, and Carol Sue Wiesdeppe. Also his niece Kim Freeman, and great friends Jim Day, Cherry and Bill Travers, and Anthony Marshall are among the surviving loved ones.
Neil served in the United States Coast Guard from 1950 to 1953. He was awarded a medal for valor, after saving a fellow sailor who had fallen over-board into the cold waters of Lake Michigan. Neil jumped in and saved the sailor from drowning. When asked why he put his life at risk, Neil replied “I knew I was the only one who could save him.”
Neil worked for the Union Pacific Railroad from 1954 to 1963, and then joined Sherill Minter Ford in Kansas City as a salesman. Once in the car business, he never looked back. He soon was promoted to New Car Manager and then General Manager. Neil formed his own used car business, N&R Auto, and remained in the used car business in either retail or wholesale successfully for 35 years.
Golf was Neil’s passion, as was his love for the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. In his youth, he was an excellent baseball pitcher, golden gloves boxer, and really good at most sports.
The most unique and endearing quality was Neil’s upbeat, pleasing personality. He could sell anything to anybody! Neil was a pleasure to be around for all concerned. He would make your day brighter and make you laugh. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Rest in Peace.
Details for a Memorial Service will follow later, however, it is tentatively planned for April of 2021 after COVID 19 has mainly passed.
