
Norma Jean Long, 85, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away peacefully on June 19, 2017 at the Piper. Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 23rd at Risen Savior Lutheran Church, 14700 Leavenworth Road, Basehor, Kansas 66007. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norma Long Fund at the church.
Norma was born July 26, 1931 in Kansas City, Kansas to Robert and Mae (Hayes) Eddy. She graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1949 and married her high school sweetheart, William H. Long on September 3, 1949. Norma earned her Associates degree while working at Fidelity Bank, then later worked as a clerk for Santa Fe Railroad for over seventeen years, retiring in 1990. She was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church and had lately been attending Risen Savior Lutheran Church and was devoted to her bible study. Norma was devoted to her family and often used her skills as a seamstress to make special event outfits, like prom dresses and suits, and even her daughter’s wedding dress. Her generous and kind nature knew no bounds.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, William H. Long; her brother, David Eddy; and her grandson, Ryan Christopher Long.
Norma is survived by her children, Phyllis Greenlee and her husband Edward, Gerald “Jerry” Long and his wife Theresa; her grandchildren, Kathleen Heldenbrand and her husband Brent, Matthew Pate, David Naylor and his wife Emily, Laura Franks, and Jeffrey Long; as well as nine great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
