Born March 29, 1921 in Benedict Kansas to Ernest and Bertha Willoughby. She attended school in Fredonia Kansas and graduated in May 1939.
Pauline lived in Wichita in a boarding house for several years where she attended “nurses training” and worked for Boeing Airplane Company through 1945 with various duties including a rivet clerk and rivet chaser. Afterwards she ventured off to the Los Angeles area to follow her dreams and ended up residing in Inglewood California, where she also spent numerous years performing bookkeeping duties for car dealerships.
October 5, 1946 Pauline married Gene Huffman at a small chapel in Las Vegas, who was her lifelong husband until his passing October 31, 1996. They were active in various organizations including the Westchester Elks Lodge and American Legion where wonderful memories were made. They also made many trips to Las Vegas during their marriage. Some were planned and others were spontaneous so she kept a bag packed and was always eager to go.
In 2001, she moved to Basehor Kansas to be close to her family. She was an active member of Gold Pride in Basehor and enjoyed participating in many events. During the past year, she lived at Country Place Senior Living where she delighted in joining the various activities such as bingo, exercise and dominos.
Anyone who knew Pauline would say that she was a true sweetheart and enjoyed life. She was fascinated with nature, whether it was trees, gardening or watching all of the different birds that fed on the numerous bird feeders she kept constantly supplied with seeds. She also relished in family genealogy and telling stories of her life. Although she spent so many wonderful years in California, her true calling seemed to be in Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Huffman, Ernest and Bertha Willoughby (parents), Howard Willoughby (brother) and Ethel White (sister). Survivors include Karen Wilson (great niece) Basehor Kansas and Dr. Mark Coble (great nephew) Lenexa Kansas, along with other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pauline will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
A visitation will be held from 5:00-6:30 PM on Monday, January 5th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th Street Kansas City KS. Burial will be at the Farmington Cemetery in Farmington KS on Tuesday, January 6th at 11:00 AM.
