
Phyllis (Nani) Serene Stambaugh passed away at Olathe Medical Center on August 23, 2013 at the age of 73. A visitation will be held at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home on August 30th from 9:30-10:30 am with the funeral service to follow at 10:30. Inurnment will follow services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Johnson County Mental Health, 6000 Lamar, Suite 130, Mission, KS 66202.
Phyllis was born in Kansas City, MO on October 21, 1939. She graduated from Southwest High School in 1958. She worked at the Johnson County Mental Health Center as an office administrator. Phyllis lived a very active life. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, bird watching, playing card games and dominoes with family and friends, walking her dogs (Gary and Frankie), social times with her Bunko group, lunches with her Dinosaur Club, and birthday and holiday celebrations with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking as she prepared wonderful home cooked meals and passed these skills to her children. Phyllis enjoyed theatre and the arts. She was known as a compassionate and loving person and had no trouble speaking her mind.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her mother and father, Phillip and Virginia Oliver of Olathe, KS and her first husband, Loren Schroeder of Olathe, KS. She is survived by her loving husband Merle Stambaugh of 28 years. Phyllis is lovingly remembered by her children, Lori Bjorklun, Shari Clark, and Phillip Schroeder; grandchildren, Madeline Bjorklun, Natalie Bjorklun, Carly Clark, Haley Schroeder and Olivia Schroeder; step children Michelle Lindsay and Keith Stambaugh; step grandchildren, Shelby Lindsay, Courtney Lindsay, and David Lindsay; and sister Rosalie and Joaquin Gimeno.
