Richard Louis Allen Harris

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Richard Louis Allen Harris, who died on September 8, 2026, in Leavenworth, Kansas, at the age of 83.

Richard was born on December 7, 1942, in Kansas City, Kansas to Floyd and Ines Harris. He graduated from Turner High School in 1960 and attended and graduated from Kansas City Kansas Community College 1962 to 1963. In 1970, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Emporia State University.

Prior to completing his degree, Richard joined the Army National Guard in 1966. His unit was called to active duty in 1968 before he deployed to Vietnam in 1969. During his military service, he received the Army Commendation Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars.

Following his graduation from Emporia State University, Richard began his banking career at Citizens Savings and Loan Association in Leavenworth, where he served as Senior Vice President and member of the Board of Directors. He later accepted a position with the Army National Bank at Fort Leavenworth before launching his own mortgage banking company and obtaining his real estate license in 1987. He spent many years buying and selling property, as well as building numerous homes in the Leavenworth, Lansing, and Basehor communities. After a long, successful, and respectable career, he eventually retired at the age of 63 as a Real Estate Appraiser.

Richard married the love of his life, Jana, in 1982 in Leavenworth, Kansas. Together, they built a wonderful life filled with family, hard work, and lasting friendships.

Richard is survived by his wife Dr. Jana Harris; stepdaughters Traci (Jon) Carnoali and Sheri (Ben) Seichepine; grandchildren Terra McMullin, Nikki Seichepine, Zac Carnoali, and Alex Carnoali; great-grandchildren Braylon McMullin, Jaxson McMullin, Jace McMullin, and Colton McMullin; brothers Bob and Johnny Harris.

He was preceded in death by his father Floyd Harris, mother Ines Harris, and sister Sharlene McKee.

Richard was a hardworking man known for his unwavering integrity, strong moral character, and deep sense of responsibility. He was dependable, always kind and welcoming, treating friends and strangers alike with warmth and respect. He was very patriotic and proud of his service as a United States Army Veteran.

Richard enjoyed a good cup of coffee, spending time with his family, and doting on his beloved dog, Bailee. His steadfast love, support, friendship, and generosity touched countless lives. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, loyalty, and kindness that will never be forgotten by those who knew and loved him.

Per his wishes, a committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, at the VA National Cemetery in Leavenworth, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite Veteran’s charity.
