Robert was born on September 8, 1929, in Topeka, Kansas, to Earl and Evelyn Hoit. A 1947 graduate of Turner High School, he served honorably in the United States Army as a Sergeant during the Korean War from March 1951 to March 1953.
On July 19, 1953, Robert married Carol Jean Parkison. They built a life centered on faith, family, hard work, and service to others, sharing nearly 73 years of marriage and raising five children. Robert designed and built the family’s home in Muncie, Kansas. The famous wrap-around porch served as the gathering point for church events, slumber parties, family dinners, and Big Wheel bike races.
Robert worked for Procter & Gamble for 45 years as a warehouse operator. He drove tractor-trailers as a second job and continued after retirement until his late 80s. He never missed his children's sporting events and activities, later spending countless hours cheering on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren from the stands.
A devoted follower of Christ, Robert was a member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God for many years, and more recently attended Abundant Life Church. He loved singing gospel hymns, serving his church, and sharing his faith through the way he lived life.
Robert was known for his incredible work ethic, generous heart, and unforgettable sense of humor. He and Carol were among the first to help others, giving without expecting anything in return. He loved animals, antique cars, sports, and spending time with family. Robert found joy in life's simple blessings and in the people around him.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Evelyn Hoit; his brother, Evan Hoit; his sister, Jeannine Pierce; his son, Steven Hoit; and his infant son, Eugene Allen Hoit.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carol; his children, Starr Freeman, Kevin Hoit (Tammy), Janie Bustamante, and Tom Hoit (Vicky); his daughter-in-law, Gayla Hoit; his sisters, Peggy Howey and Betty Williams; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Robert's legacy is one of faith, family, hard work, laughter, and service. He lived a life that demonstrated what it means to love God, love others, and work diligently in all things. His family takes comfort in knowing that he has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant," and is now reunited with loved ones who have gone before him.
