Ronald Ray “Ron” Green, beloved husband, father, papa, brother, uncle, and hero to many, passed away on August 15th, 2024 in his hometown of Kansas City, Kansas. Born to Lucy and Cecil Green on April 28th, 1948, Ron stayed loyal to his hometown of Kansas City for his 76 years of life.
During his working years, Ron was employed by South Western Bell where he remained until retirement. Loyalty was always one of his best qualities. Ron was also an avid sports fan especially to his hometown teams. He loved watching the Kansas City Chiefs and the KU basketball games. But most of all, he loved his Kansas City Royals. He was loyal even during their losing seasons.
Family and friends also describe Ron as loving, caring, kind, and funny. He has also been a great mentor and coach to many. The number of lives he impacted as a coach of numerous sports is immeasurable. He loved his time at the field or court coaching his two children. His most recent years were spent supporting his five grandchildren. He rarely missed a game or recital. He loved his family immensely and was the glue that kept us together.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents Lucy and Cecil Green, his nephew Rodney Hightower, and his niece Kristine “Babe” Thurston.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Connie Green, his daughter Megan (Derek) Alexander, son Derek Green, and his five grandchildren Laney, Cameron, Braylyn, Grant, and Audrey. He is also survived by his siblings Judy (Emmitt) Hightower, Kathy (Will) Thomas, Richard (Sam) Green, and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Ron’s life will be held on August 21st, 2024 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by service at 11:00 a.m. Ron will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
